WATCH: SS Rajamouli reveals Magadheera’s box office figures were inflated

first_imgBaahubali 2 is not the first success story of filmmaker SS Rajamouli. The director has a Midas touch; he has had no flops in his career of 12 years. Among his blockbusters is Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal-starrer Magadheera, and it raised a few eyebrows when he did not attend the celebrations of the film’s success. In a recent interview, Rajamouli revealed the reason behind his absence. Apparently, the filmmaker was unhappy with the film’s producer, Allu Aravind, for inflating the film’s box office figures. “My film Simhadri enjoyed a great box office run of 100 days in quite a number of theatres. We were all very happy, but the producers inflated the numbers and claimed that it ran for 175 days for publicity. I felt irritated and humiliated by that,” he said.Rajamouli added, “I told him that let us not do the same thing with Magadheera, and he agreed. I wanted to put a full stop to this bad trend. Magadheera became one of the biggest Tollywood blockbusters of all-time. When I was excited about the success, they started publicising that it ran 100 days in so many theatres. I confronted Aravind about it and he said he didn’t want to, but had to, because of pressure from fans. I could understand his situation, but at the same time, I didn’t want to endorse all those wrong calculations.”WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW HEREMeanwhile, Baahubali 2 has raked in over Rs 1650 crore worldwide, with just the Hindi version raking in Rs 500 crore domestically.
