The UNWTO has established a Global Tourism Crisis Committee to lead the sector in response to the COVID-19 crisis and to lay the foundations for future resilience and sustainable growth. The guidelines were prepared in collaboration with the Global Tourism Crisis Committee and aim to help governments and the private sector recover from the crisis. The new guide, following the recommendations for action already approved by the Committee, focuses on seven priorities for the recovery of tourism based on the pillars of economic mitigation, the development of safety protocols and a coordinated response and encouragement of innovation. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has published a series of guidelines to help the tourism sector. The guidelines emphasize the importance of restoring passenger confidence through safety protocols designed to reduce risk at every step of the tourism value chain. These protocols include the implementation of verification procedures, where appropriate, including temperature tests, examinations, physical distancing, frequent cleaning of all areas, and the provision of hygiene kits for safe air traffic, catering services, or tourist events. Collaboration with CNN UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said: “These guidelines provide governments and companies with a comprehensive set of measures designed to help them relaunch tourism in a safe, unhindered and responsible manner. ” Secretary General Pololikashvili added: “In recent weeks, the enhanced role of technology playing in our lives has been highlighted, and the further digital transformation of tourism will make the sector more resilient and create opportunities for people around the world. ” UNWTO / GLOBAL GUIDELINES TO RESTART TOURISMcenter_img Side dish: Collaboration with Google / Focus on digital tourism transformation Security protocols for tourism recovery Depending on the lifting of travel restrictions, a specialized United Nations agency warns that international tourist arrivals could fall between 60% and 80%. This jeopardizes 100 to 120 million jobs and could lead to an export loss of $ 910 billion to $ 1,2 trillion. The UNWTO guidelines also highlight the possibility of encouraging the digital transformation of destinations, companies and employees with initiatives such as free online training with the UNWTO online academy and the implementation of applications such as Hi Card. The role of technology in promoting social distance in hotels and tourist destinations was also emphasized.
