But I am amazed that this benefit is not afforded to the car parks located in the close vicinity of the Letterkenny Main Street. “I am inundated with calls from members of the public who may only stop for 10 or 15 minutes and yet receive a parking fine. This 30 minutes free parking should be extended out to the car parks, as these car parks are often used by people who go up the Main Street due to difficulty in getting parked at certain times of the day,” he said.Cllr McDaid said there are businesses located in these areas that depend on customers who need parking for their vehicles before entering their premises.“All businesses in and around the Main Street area should be afforded the same opportunities, and that is why it is essential that car parking strategies are now reviewed in these areas.“I will be raising this important issue at our upcoming Letterkenny Municipal meeting and I hope that my fellow Councillors will support my motion and allow for this much needed review at these car parks.” He added that with the recent regeneration of the Main Street and the appointment of a new Town Manager it is essential that Donegal County Council give as much assistance to the business’s located in the main Street area as is possible so that a level playing field is put in place for all of the businesses in the town.“The nature of many of the purchases made in these shops is such that they only need to park for a short time. This can also be said for someone to be running into the doctors for a prescription”.Mc Daid further commented that “I believe it’s counterproductive to be charging people to park for such small periods of time as they will often drive out of town to a unit that has free car parking.“I will be asking Donegal County Council in the strongest possible way to review and reconsider the charges and I believe that this move will help Business’s who are the rate payers and customers alike in Letterkenny, let’s hope my fellow Councillors agree with me and the business owners whom I have spoken to.”Cllr McDaid also intends to highlight the need for more disabled car park spaces in some of these car parks, particularly the HSE based one. “I have been getting a lot of complaints about the conditions of these car parks especially on icy mornings, due to the lack of grit,” he added.McDAID DEMANDS REVIEW OF PARKING CHARGES IN CENTRAL LETTERKENNY was last modified: February 5th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Cllr James Pat McDaiddonegalletterkennyParkinglast_img read more
