Nintendo’s next Zelda game isn’t exactly what we’ve all been waiting for. In fact, for the hardcore fans of the franchise Hyrule Warriors is one of those things you glance at from a distance with cautious optimism without letting anyone know you’re interested. Dynasty Warriors and Legend of Zelda games don’t exactly have a lot of things in common, but the combination is just compelling enough to make everyone curious.Nintendo sent us an early copy of Hyrule Warriors to evaluate, so we’re going to run through a couple of levels to show off some of the characters and their capabilities. At its core, this is a Dynasty Warriors game with the heaviest coat of Zelda paint imaginable. This is by design, as Mr. Miyamoto made it clear that he did not want this game to feel like a Legend of Zelda title. What you get as a result is a story that skirts several Legend of Zelda games in order to pull in the requisite number of playable characters, as well as some loose adaptations on the attacks and weapons Zelda fans are familiar with. The upside, even if that doesn’t sound appealing to you as a game, is that there’s now a ton of beautiful HD art for Zelda fans to appreciate.Hyrule Warriors will be available on September 26 on the Wii U. We’ll be following this live-stream with commentary on how the game plays and our thoughts on Nintendo’s latest game. Please be sure to add any questions you might have in the comments section below!
