Upgrading Cumberland and Colchester

first_img Drivers in Cumberland and Colchester counties will see upgradedroads this summer. Tenders have been called for paving jobs on Route 209 inCumberland County, and Upper John Road in Colchester County. “Improvements to these roads bring real benefits to arearesidents,” said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation andPublic Works. “Goods and services will move quickly and driverswill have safer and smoother travels.” The department plans to repave 6.8 kilometres of Route 209 fromNorth Greville Road westerly, and will repave 5.4 kilometres ofUpper John Road from Route 311 easterly to Wallace Mingo Road.The work is to be completed by August 31. The Department of Transportation and Public Works highwaysdivision manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in NovaScotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operatesseven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from districtoffices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
