The Nest

first_imgTouch Football Australia (TFA) has partnered with etrainu (ETU) to deliver a Learning Management System (LMS) which we have officially branded as ‘The Nest’. The Nest can be accessed via: https://touchfootball.etrainu.com/For the first time as a sport, The Nest will give TFA the ability to talk to our accredited volunteers and target ongoing education opportunities to our membership. This system will let us streamline administrative processes for our course Facilitators and Referee Coaches across the country, allowing us greater reach than ever before. TFA intends for The Nest to be a hub where all members of our sport go to develop their knowledge of the game. This platform will also provide a whole-of-sport education profile. The name ‘The Nest’ comes from the fact that the Australian teams are now known as ‘The Emus’, and we want our Sport Education platform branding to align. For emus, their nest is their ‘home’, where development is fostered for both young and old.Click here to read more.last_img read more

James Bond should always be played by a man Eva Green

first_imgLos Angeles: Former Bond Girl Eva Green is not in the favour of flipping the gender of 007 spy as she believes it would be wrong to ignore the history of the character, which has always been played by a man. The “Casino Royale” star, considered one of the best Bond girls in the history of the franchise, says women should create their own action film legacy. Daniel Craig is set to leave the franchise after the release of Cary Fukunaga’s “Bond 25” in April 2020 and there is already a lot of speculation about his replacement with names such as Idris Elba and Richard Madden doing the rounds. Also Read – Hilarie Burton, Jeffery Dean Morgan tie the knot Some actors and fans are in favour of giving a gender swap to the character as they believe it is time for a female actor to take on the role, created by Ian Fleming. “I’m for women, but I really think James Bond should remain a man. It doesn’t make sense for him to be a woman. Women can play different types of characters, be in action movies, and be superheroes, but James Bond should always be a man and not be Jane Bond. There is history with the character that should continue. He should be played by a man,” Green told Vanity Fair on the “Dumbo” red carpet. Also Read – ‘Vaastav’ gave me the real sense of being an actor: Sanjay Dutt on film’s 20-year anniversary Green is proud of the fact that her character Vesper Lynd brought about a change in the way Bond girls are perceived. “I originally had reservations about being a Bond girl. I didn’t want to be a bimbo. The women are now perceived differently. They are intelligent and sassy and fascinating. I loved playing Vesper. She’s the only one to get to Bond’s heart and has a big impact on his life,” she said. “Bond 25” will be Craig’s fifth outing as 007 following “Casino Royale”, “Quantum of Solace”, “Skyfall” and “Spectre”.last_img read more

ATF should be brought under GST to provide level playing field to

first_imgNew Delhi: Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) should be brought under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime as it will ensure a level playing field for the domestic airline industry, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said. He said input costs should be competitive for any sector and the ministry has been of the strong view that the fuel should be brought under the GST regime. Different rates of taxes in states pushes the price of ATF, he said. “Each state has a different tax. Due to this, the refuelling (for airlines) cost completely changes. We feel that it should be done. I hope the GST Council takes a call on that and we are pursuing this with the council continuously. Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscal”We will work on it that aviation fuel should also be brought under GST for predictability and for ensuring level playing field,” the minister said in an interview. Airlines have been demanding inclusion of ATF in the new indirect tax regime. Airlines could expect an annual relief of up to Rs 5,000 crore by way of input tax credit if ATF is brought under GST. The move could cushion them from the burden of increased jet fuel prices, besides providing relief to customers.last_img read more

Receive no monetary benefit from MI Tendulkars letter to Ombudsman

first_imgNew Delhi: Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has categorically refuted all allegations of Conflict of Interest levelled against him as he claimed to have neither “received any compensation” nor holding any decision making role in the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Tendulkar on Sunday filed a 14-point written response to a notice sent by Ombudsman cum Ethics Officer Justice (Retd) DK Jain. It was with regards to a Conflict of Interest complaint filed by the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) member Sanjeev Gupta. Also Read – We will push hard for Kabaddi”s inclusion in 2024 Olympics: RijijuAs per the complainant, Tendulkar and Laxman are allegedly performing dual roles, first of a “support staff” in their respective IPL franchises Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and second as members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). “At the outset, the Noticee (Tendulkar) denies the contents of the Complaint in totality (except the statements specifically admitted herein). No part of the Complaint should be deemed to be admitted by the Noticee for lack of specific denials,” Tendulkar wrote in his response which is in possession of PTI. Also Read – Djokovic to debut against Shapovalov at Shanghai MastersSince Gupta’s complaints harped specifically on Tendulkar’s role in the MI, the iconic cricketer in his response have made a full disclosure of his role in the franchise. “The Noticee (Tendulkar) has received no pecuniary benefit/ compensation from the Mumbai Indians IPL Franchise in his capacity as the Mumbai Indians ‘ICON’ since his retirement, and is certainly not employed with the Franchise in any capacity. “He does not occupy any position, nor has he taken any decision (including selection of team players) which could qualify as being in governance or management of the Franchise. Accordingly, there is no conflict of interest, either under the BCCI Rules or otherwise,” world’s leading run-getter further explained. As far as his role in the CAC is concerned, Tendulkar mentioned that he was appointed as a member of the BCCI committee in 2015, which was only years after his involvement with the MI. “The Noticee was appointed to the panel of the Cricket Advisory Committee (“CAC”) in the year 2015. The Hon’ble Ethics Officer will appreciate that the Noticee was named as the ‘ICON’ for Mumbai Indians much prior to his empanelment with the CAC – which fact has always been in the public domain. “Accordingly, the BCCI aware of the Noticee’s association with the Mumbai Indians Franchise at the time of his appointment to the CAC.” Tendulkar, in his disclosure, further makes it clear that the role of an icon — the one he is performing right now in the IPL franchise team — in no way is a position either in the management or the governance of the franchise. “The Complaint wrongly assumes that the Noticee’s association with the Mumbai Indians IPL Franchise ( Franchise ) is in the capacity of “governance”, “management” or “employment” – thereby attracting a conflict under Rule 38 (4). “His role is limited to providing guidance to the Franchise team by sharing his insights, learnings and working closely with the younger members in the team to help them realise their true potential.” On his reply to Gupta’s question of him sitting in the team’s ‘dugout’ — place specified for players and support staff only — he termed the allegation as “absurd”. “A mentor cannot be qualified as “management” of the Franchise. If the Complainant’s absurd logic were to be applied, a physiotherapist, trainer or a masseur would also be qualified as “management” of the Franchise,” Tendulkar responded, making it clear that he is answerable to none of the support staff. “It is also pertinent to note that the Mumbai Indians team has a head coach, who works side by side with coaches for specific disciplines such as bowling, batting etc. in ultimate coordination with the Director of Cricket Operations – none of whom the Noticee is answerable to or vice versa since his role is limited to that of providing guidance and motivation to the team.” Also, in case of the Ombudsman willing to “continue proceedings”, Tendulkar has requested for a “personal hearing along with his legal representatives.”last_img read more

A Lazy OutOfShape Amateur Won Two More Super Bowls Than Tony Romo

The list of sub-par quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl despite being nothing more than “game managers” just grew by one. FiveThirtyEight’s own Walt Hickey has joined the ranks of Brad Johnson, Doug Williams and Trent Dilfer.Sure, Walt did it in a video game, while the other three did it while wearing cleats in real life, but the taste of victory was just as sweet. Walt’s triumph is courtesy of two Madden savants, Tim Curry and Luke Barr, who answered the call on our sports podcast Hot Takedown a few weeks ago. We laid down a challenge to see if anyone could win it all in Madden NFL 16 with Walt as their quarterback. Curry and Barr turned Walt’s depressing player ratings into a championship.Below are notes the two victors sent us about their journeys. As promised, we’ll be giving them a shoutout on this week’s podcast and sending them a signed poster of Walt in full pads.Curry, who won with the Philadelphia Eagles, provides a thrilling game report:I have done it. After smacking the Cowboys in the divisional game and beating the Seahawks in the NFC championship, Walt Hickey and the Eagles defeated the Buffalo Bills in an epic comeback, 21-17. After falling behind 14-0, Walt threw a pick with less than a minute left in the first half, leading to a Bills field goal. But the Eagles came out swinging in the second half, with Ryan Mathews taking a pitch from Walt 80 yards to the house. In the fourth quarter, Mathews hit another long option run, being caught at the 10. This time DeMarco Murray took it in for 6, bringing the game to 17-14 with just under two minutes to play. After the Bills recovered the onside kick attempt, the Eagles brought the house to stop the run three times, using up all three timeouts, but getting the ball back at their own 20 with 1:30 left. This time it was a mix of Murray and Mathews leading the way, with Murray taking a short pass 20 yards and Mathews finding another 30 on a pitch. With just under a minute, DeMarco found the end zone to give the Eagles the lead. The defense held, and Walt Hickey was a Super Bowl champion! And here’s Barr, who won with the Dallas Cowboys:Some observations:I ended with an 11-5 record, the 2nd seed and a first-round bye.He cannot throw downfield. Any throw more than ten yards downfield was almost always intercepted. The best routes to run were definitely screens and swing passes, he could hit those fairly reliably.Curl routes against bad cornerbacks in man coverage were also okay, but if he missed, it was usually an interception.I chose the Cowboys to play with because I thought the offensive line would help. Joseph Randle led the league in rushing with 1759 yards. Before the season I signed free agents Aldon Smith and Terence Newman and traded a draft pick for CB Josh Robinson. Terence Newman led the league in INTs with 12.Hickey’s quarterback rating of 42.6 was actually better than Matt Flynn’s who had a 40.2 rating on 76 attempts.Of Hickey’s 1872 yards, 1457 were gained after the catch. Here is Walt’s game log, individual stats and team stats. Walt is galled that, as a New York Giants fan, he won the Super Bowl with the Eagles and Cowboys. But that does make him better than Tony Romo and Sam Bradford. So he’s got that, at least. And there you have it. Once again, congrats to Tim and Luke. Now please go outside. Read more: How Madden Helped A Schlub Like Me Make It Into The NFL read more

Womens Basketball Ohio State wins fourth straight with 6150 victory against Wisconsin

Ohio State guard Carmen Grande (1) dribbles the ball up the court in the second half of the game against Indiana on Jan. 10. Ohio State won 55-50. Credit: Casey Cascaldo | Photo EditorThe Ohio State women’s basketball team (14-12, 10-7 Big Ten) continued its hot streak, winning 10 of its past 14 games, with a 61-50 win against Wisconsin(13-16, 4-13). Thursday’s game saw four players score 10 points or more, with redshirt senior guard Carmen Grande leading the way for Ohio State. Her 17 points along with three rebounds and five assists were key in giving the Buckeyes a substantial lead for most of the game. Also getting in on the action were freshman guard Janai Crooms, redshirt senior guard Carly Santoro and freshman forward Dorka Juhasz, who combined for 32 of the team’s 61 points. Crooms was hot early on helping the Buckeyes get off to an early lead in the first quarter. She was 4-of-8 from the field for 11 points to go with six rebounds. Moving into the second quarter, Santoro and Juhasz stepped up to take control of the game and get a 13-point lead heading into halftime. Santoro scored 11 points with two rebounds and two assists. Juhasz had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds to contribute not only on the offensive side, but also being a key figure on the defensive side as well. Wisconsin could never quite get it going on the offensive side early on, but senior forward Marsha Howard kept the Badgers in the game with a 15-point performance along with seven rebounds and two assists. The second half was a bit of different story, as a 10-point Wisconsin run in the third quarter cut an 18-point Ohio State lead back down to a single-digit game. However, the Buckeyes countered with a nine-point run of their own to take a firm hold of the game again. Despite a nine-point run by Wisconsin in the fourth quarter, Ohio State burned enough clock to limit Wisconsin’s options. The Badgers were forced to foul to stay in the game, and the Buckeyes made enough free throws to get away with the win. The Buckeyes will close out the regular season with a rematch against Rutgers on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center. read more

Lessons from Housing Privatization Can Be Applied to New Installation Initiatives

first_imgThe Army’s successful housing privatization initiative can be used as a model to guide future reforms of DOD’s real estate portfolio, two former high-ranking Army officials say in a recent commentary in the Wall Street Journal.“The program’s success shows how partnerships between business and the military can often achieve better outcomes than the military can achieve on its own. This is especially so when applied to the vast infrastructure that consumes more than $200 billion of today’s defense budget,” say Sandy Apgar, who served as assistant secretary of the Army for installations and environment from 1998-2001, and Jack Keane, who served as the Army’s vice chief of staff from 1999-2003.Apgar and Keane suggest that other assets, such as offices, warehousing and maintenance, could be monetized and their performance improved.“If the Defense Department were authorized to follow the best practices of American business and shed 10 percent to 20 percent of its infrastructure-related costs, it could save $20 billion to $40 billion a year,” they state. They cite five principles of defense reform that the next administration should follow in launching new initiatives:integrate public needs with private means and methods;plan from the inside out — military-business partnerships start with the soldier and the family, not the budget or the building;act strategically, trading short-term gains for long-term benefits;cross institutional, functional and geographic boundaries — bypassing DOD’s vertical silos and risk-averse culture can eliminate overhead and produce outcome-based systems; andfocus more on best-value outcomes than least-cost activities.“Partnerships have shown that the Pentagon’s conventional contracting methods can be more costly in the long run while risking mediocre results,” Apgar and Keane say. This is why Malaika knows the kind of trolling she and Priyanka faces on social media. Both Malaika and Priyanka are often trolled for being with men, who are younger to them. Reacting to the trolls that PeeCee face, Malaika appreciated the way she handles it and criticised the mentality that considers elder women dating younger men as a wrong thing.”I remember that. The couple has just turned it all around and silenced all the wagging tongues. But why did those tongues even wag? It’s unfair to judge relationships. Can’t a woman find love in a man younger than her? If someone makes you happy and enriches your life, what’s the harm? I am 45 and that doesn’t make me dead or someone who’s over the hill. I enjoy my life and feel happy about having such a special equation with a man younger than me. You have to forget the barriers and nurture relationships,” she told Bombay Times.Recently, Malaika had made her relationship with Arjun official with a romantic Instagram post in which the latter was tagged. Mismatch of needs and job demands may cause burnout

first_imgBurnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion from work, which results in lack of motivation, low efficiency, and helpless feeling. Its health effects include anxiety, cardiovascular disease, immune disorders, insomnia, and depression. The results showed that a mismatch between job characteristics and either implicit motive can cause burnout. Employees can get burned out when they have too much or not enough scope for power or affiliation compared to their individual needs. “We found that the frustration of unconscious effective needs, caused by a lack of opportunities for motive-driven behaviour, is detrimental to psychological and physical well-being,” said leading author, Veronika Brandstatter, Professor at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. “The same is true for goal-striving that doesn’t match a well-developed implicit motive for power or affiliation, because then excessive effort is necessary to achieve that goal. Both forms of mismatch act as ‘hidden stressors’ and can cause burnout,” Brandstatter added.  Also Read – Add new books to your shelfFurther, the unconscious needs of employees – their so-called “implicit motives” – play an important role in the development of burnout. The researchers focus on two important motives: the power motive, that is, the need to take responsibility for others, maintain discipline, and engage in arguments or negotiation, in order to feel strong and self-efficacious. Secondly, the affiliation motive, the need for positive personal relations, in order to feel trust, warmth, and belonging.  Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveFor the study, the team analysed 97 Swiss men and women, between the age group 22 and 62. The greater the mismatch between someone’s affiliation motive and the scope for personal relations at the job, the higher was the risk of burnout, the researchers said. Likewise, adverse physical symptoms, such as headache, chest pain, faintness, and shortness of breath, became more common with increasing mismatch between an employee’s power motive and the scope for power in his or her job. Interventions that prevent or repair such mismatches could increase well-being at work and reduce the risk of burnout, the team suggested.last_img read more
