Fitango Helps You Keep Your Online Learning On Track

first_img8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market There are an increasing number of educational resources available online, but the challenge today might be less a matter of finding something that you want to learn than it is a matter following through with the actual learning itself.Fitango wants to address that by offering its users action plans, step-by-step guides on how to accomplish their goals. There are hundreds of plans on the site, including “How to Grow a Vegetable Garden” and “How to Winterize Your Vehicle.” Some of the action plans are free, but many cost money – about $10 on average. What comprises the plans depends, obviously, on what you’re learning: some include videos, some are text. But they all include some way to track your progress and maintain a checklist of how you’re doing. That tracking is also highly social, so you can share your progress with others. You can find your friends via Facebook and email, for example, and you can push your updates to your social streams, should you choose. This is meant to help you keep yourself motivated, not just with a checklist of what you need to be doing in your action plan, but by having others become your tracking your progress as well. You can invite others to become your motivator so they can keep you on task and give you feedback. You can distribute these via the site, although these plans can’t be sold for money, as the company wants to keep the quality of its expert advice high. Like many companies that are moving into this growing space of online learning, that will be the challenge for Fitango – making sure the content on the site is worthwhile and its users’ experiences positive.Fitango launched in December, just in time to catch the New Year’s Resolution crowd. No surprise then, many of its initial plans emphasized health and self-improvement. But since then, the company has expanded into other areas, most recently with action plans from the language-learning company Berlitz. Copa America: Mexico top Group C after draw with Venezuela

first_imgJesus Manuel “Tecatito” Corona’s goal in the 80th minute gave Mexico a 1-1 tie against Venezuela on Monday night and first place in Group C of the Copa America.Corona had missed several opportunities to score before he took on five defenders before firing off a shot from 10 yards to tie it and thrill the overwhelmingly pro-Mexico crowd.MEXICO AVOID MATCH-UP WITH MESSIBy winning their group, El Tri avoids a quarterfinal matchup with Lionel Messi and tournament favorite Argentina. They’re likely headed for an easier matchup with Chile in the knockout round, leaving Venezuela to face mighty Argentina.Venezuela surprised Mexico with an early goal. The Vinotinto used a free kick to get it in the box, and Jose Manuel Velazquez gave Venezuela the lead in the 10th minute after taking an assist on a header from Christian Santos and volleying it in for the goal.Venezuela had a chance to take the lead in the 84th minute, but goalkeeper Jose de Jesus Corona saved a bicycle kick shot by Josef Martinez.LONGEST UNBEATEN STREAKMexico has a 22-game unbeaten streak, which is its longest unbeaten streak ever and has nine wins and a draw since Juan Carlos Osorio took over for interim coach Ricardo Ferretti last fall. The team has scored 16 goals and allowed just two since he took over.Monday marked the first time Venezuela had given up a goal in this tournament after Los Vinotintos were the surprise of the tournament by winning their first two games 1-0.advertisementVenezuela goalkeeper Dani Hernandez came through again and again before Tecatito’s goal and even pulled off a double save in the 73rd minute. His play in the first two games left Venezuela as the only team in the tournament that hadn’t allowed a goal.Mexico had a chance to tie it in the 49th minute, but Oribe Peralta could not get a foot on the ball from 5 yards off a short pass from Hirving Lozano. Another opportunity came in the 56th minute when Tecatito took a shot from 20 yards, but it sailed wide off the far post.Miguel Layun almost put it in for Mexico in the 61st minute, but this time Hernandez knocked it out of the air and away from the goal. Corona missed yet again a couple of minutes later when his shot rolled just outside of the post.Venezuela’s Josef Martinez took a shot in the 66th minute, but it was denied by Corona.Mexico took multiple shots in the first half after Venezuela took the lead, including a couple of headers from close range, but was unable to take advantage of any of those opportunities. Tecatito had a couple of chances to score in that span, but was left shaking his head as Hernandez kept Mexico scoreless.last_img read more

A legend like Anil Kumble deserved more respect from BCCI: Gautam Gambhir to India Today

first_imgFollowing Anil Kumble’s unceremonious exit, the BCCI rumour factory now rests easy. But from Kumble’s resignation to Ravi Shastri’s reinstatement, for the BCCI, it was a public relations disaster. While it also became evident captain Virat Kohli stood his ground in not wanting Kumble and there were players in the dressing room who also had issues with the coach’s working style, most others rallied behind the captain. Not every player however, had problems with Kumble and some like Gautam Gambhir are not amused with the way the coach drama played out. Gambhir who played in the Test series against New Zealand last year, currently works as an analyst for ESPNcricnfo’s new show ‘Turn and Bounce.’In an interview to India Today he says, “BCCI could have handled it in a lot more professional way. You got to give a legend like Anil Kumble a lot more respect. He is someone who has done so much for Indian cricket and has been a captain as well.”Without going deeper into Kumble’s working style, the southpaw did say the BCCI image took a beating because of the episode. “If you handle the issue in this fashion it gives a poor image. I think because of that you got the kind of coach applicants you got to consider,” he opined. As it turned out, Shastri, who Kumble had replaced in 2016, was handed back coaching duties with Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody the only other serious contenders, ultimately overlooked.Gambir urged all and sundry to move on now that the appointment is made.advertisement”It’s done and dusted and the appointment has been made. Irrespective of whether Anil kumble is the coach or Ravi Shastri, what’s more important is that India wins. After all the coaches performance is not analysed, the team’s performance is,” he said. While Virat as the captain became a central figure in the coach appointment saga with his opinion sought, Gambhir disagrees any of this external pressure will weigh him down.”I don’t think there will be external pressure on Virat. The coach has been appointed. The support staff is largely the same.”If this controversy had lingered on it could have been a distraction. Now it should not. The series is about to get underway. You have gone there to play as a cricketer. Who should be appointed is not your job. Your focus is on cricket,” he concluded.last_img read more

ED nets Satish Sana Babu the man behind CBI vs CBI battle

first_imgNew Delhi: The ED on Friday night arrested Hyderabad-based businessman Satish Sana Babu, based on whose complaint, the CBI had registered a corruption case against its own former Special Director Rakesh Asthana. The ED arrested Sana from Delhi in connection with a PMLA case it is probing against controversial meat exporter Moin Qureshi and others, including former CBI director AP Singh.Sana was produced in Special court here, which granted ED five days custodial remand, remarking that “It is an investigation that is going on for a long time… certain contradictions have appeared… that is why he has been arrested. ED has made the arrest on its own risk.” Also Read – India gets first tranche of Swiss bank a/c detailsThe ED had registered a money laundering case in the matter in 2017 based on a CBI FIR that accused Qureshi of acting as a middleman to pull favours with several senior public office holders, including Singh. Sana is also part of this probe. In fact, Sana had made a complaint to the CBI last year that threw the agency into an internal war. Former Director Alok Verma got ready to probe Asthana based on Sana’s statement and Asthana subsequently made serious allegations of corruption against Verma. The CBI infighting continued with several officers being transferred; Verma resigned from service and Asthana was moved to the Civil Aviation Bureau and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval somehow came into the mix as it came to light that his phone was allegedly being tapped. Also Read – Tourists to be allowed in J&K from ThursdayThe reason Sana’s complaint rocked the probe agency last October was the seriousness of his allegations. According the subsequent FIR that the CBI registered, there seemed to be a connection between summons being issued to Sana, illegal gratification received by Asthana, Devinder Kumar, and Samanth Goel (public officials) and the relief provided to Sana subsequently. Sana was summoned by the CBI four times between October and December and it was allegedly agreed upon that Rs 5 crore needed to be paid to stop further harassment. Rs 3 crore was allegedly paid on December 10 and 13, 2017, after which the summons to Sana stopped. The businessman, however, was being pressurised to pay the rest of the amount, Rs 2 crore. Interestingly, Asthana had claimed that it was former director Alok Verma who had taken the Rs 2 crore to provide relief to Sana. The Central Bureau of Investigation is still probing the case against Rakesh Asthana.last_img read more

No proposal for use of demolished Ravidas temple land pending before govt

first_imgNew Delhi: Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot on Friday said that no proposal for use of the land upon which the Sant Ravidas temple in the Tughlaqabad area once stood, is pending before Arvind Kejriwal-led government.Shifting the responsibility on the Centre, Delhi environment minister Gahlot explained that if the government receives any proposal for any non-forest use then after consideration it forwards the matter to the central government for acceptance. Gahlot clarified that the Delhi government has no intention of leasing out the land to any private party for the planting of commercial crops or for any purpose other than replanting of the forest area. The minister cited that the 800 acres of land is a protected forest under the Forest Protection Act, 1980 and hence will not be used for any other purpose unless directed by the Center. “Under Forest Conservation Act, 1980, notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force in a state, no state Government or other authority shall make, except with the prior approval of the Central Government, any order directing that any forest land or any portion thereof may be used for any non-forest purpose,” it added. Chiefs say Ottawas criteria on drinking water leaving some nations out

first_imgAnnette Francis APTN NewsA group of chiefs from the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians welcomed politicians back to work Monday in Ottawa with a message. That the government’s promise to eradicate boil water advisories in First Nations from 91 to zero by 2021 isn’t all what it seems to be.That’s because the new criteria leaves seven communities out according to Deputy Chief Gord Peters.“All of our communities didn’t fit the criteria, they didn’t fit the one-year boil water advisories,” said Peters. “Nor did they make an advancement in the rankings mandate to be able to move towards having constructions, so the problem that we face is both the ranking system and the process.”The new criteria leaves out 547 homes in Tyendinaga said Chief Donald Maracle.“Almost half of them are polluted and experience chronic water shortages,” said Maracle of a community with well-known water issues. “We have 102 shore wells along the Bay of Quinte, they suffer from blue green algae in the late fall and summer as a result the medical officer of health issues do not use orders.”Grand Chief Joel Abram said his community, Oneida Nation of the Thames, also slipped through the cracks of the new criteria.Abram said their water treatment plant serves over 2,300 people and it currently does not meet the Ontario standards for drinking water.“We’re actually down river from the third worst polluter of water, a municipal polluter, which is London, Ontario. Whenever they have a storm water surge, partially treated sewage flows directly into the Thames River and we’re directly downstream from that,” he said.“Our current treatment system can’t really deal with that situation. We’ve already had a lot of boil water advisories in the past.”The chiefs are scheduled to meet with politicians over the next few days.afrancis@aptn.calast_img read more
